.The trip to the Prick Willow Museum started with an introduction to the drainage of the fens. It explained how the land was used and what the land was like before it was drained. The children got to learn about the historical use of wind, steam and diesel on the Fens. There was a special ‘visit’ from Cornelius Vermuyden, James Watt and Dr Diesel, who were all played by the museum’s re-enactors.
They then had a demonstration of the giant engines and then a tour around the museum looking at the other engines that are on display there. The children also completed some hands-on experiments – one featuring a flood detecting system and the other forming a propeller to test in a wind tunnel, as well as constructing their own pin wheel to take home.
